Leadership

Fang Yu

Fang Yu, born in 1956, in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, member of the Communist Party of China, Ph.D. of Lancaster University, U.K., professor of Shaanxi Normal University, and an academician of the Department of Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Fang Yu was a Research Fellow at the Birmingham University in the United Kingdom, vice president and president of Shaanxi Normal University, and is currently a standing director of the Chinese Chemical Society and deputy director of the Applied Chemistry Discipline Committee, an advisory editorial board member of Langmuir, an editorial board member of journals such as Journal of Physical Chemistry, a member of the National Textbook Committee, the leader of the National High School and Compulsory Education Chemistry Curriculum Standards Revision Group, the leader of the national physical chemistry teaching team, and the host of the national physical chemistry excellent course.

  • Prof.Fang Yu is mainly engaged in the research of functional interface and gel chemistry. Meeting the needs of public safety, hehas beenfocusingon the research of fluorescence film sensing, and developed sensitive filmformulatingstrategies such as monolayer chemistry, integrateddesign and dynamic interfacial confinedpolymerization, discoveredthe new sensing mechanism of “dynamic energy transfer, specific combination, and micro-environmentaleffect”, and pioneered thelaminatedsensor structure. Breakingforeign monopoly, hedevelopedthe concealedexplosivesdetector, made the firstnarcoticsfluorescent film sensorin the world, incubated ShenzhenSRED Security and SurveillanceTechnology Co., Ltd., and the explosives detectors developed by him have been widely used at home and abroad. Prof.Fang Yu was praised by peers as the“international leader in the field of fluorescence film sensing”.

Focusing on theformulation of advanced basic materials,he led the formulation ofthe first small molecule gel coagulant stable gel emulsion, breaking through the restriction that the volume fraction of the dispersed phase could not be less than 74%, subverting the traditional cognition of gel emulsion, expanding the application of gel emulsion template, realizing the double innovation of lightweight and high-strength polymer foam material varieties and processes, and completing the preliminary amplification of the process of preparing high-performance polystyrene foam by gel emulsion template method.

In the development of gel propellants and high-energy density materialswhich areof great significance,he usedthe molecular gel theory, solved the key problems such as low atomization efficiency of gel propellants and the difficulty of long-term stabilization of high-energy solid-liquid suspension systems, and made outstanding contributions toChina’snational defense.

Fang Yu has presided over more than 30 projects such as the "863" key or major scientific instrument projects, key international cooperation projects, national defense "973" projects, the Ministry of Education/Ministry of Finance special project for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs/Ministry of Education Discipline Innovation and Intelligence Introduction Base, built the world's first film fluorescence sensor research and development platform, published more than 240 papers in top journals in related fields, published the monograph "Film-Based Fluorescence Sensing Technology and Application", and obtained more than 40 invention patents.

Fang Yu has cultivated a group of outstanding professionals including finalists in the talent programs of the Central Organization Department, the Ministry of Education, the China Scholarship Council, and the winner of the National Hundred Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award. He has won numerous awards and honors including the National Advanced Worker, May Day Labor Medal, National Excellent Teacher, National Famous Teacher Award, Nomination of Baosteel Outstanding Teacher Special Award, Outstanding Contribution Award of Chinese Chemical Society Colloidal and Interface Chemistry Professional Committee China Soft Matter Research.
