On October 20, 2023, Prof. Fang Yu attended the Celebration of the 65th Anniversary and High-quality Development Conference of Shaanxi University of Technology, and gave a report titled “The Importance of Education and Talent Cultivation --- from the Role of Basic Research”.

Starting from the role of basic research, Fang Yu compared the importance given to education and science and technology in China and abroad, and analyzed the importance of education and talent cultivation from four perspectives. First, basic research is the source of technological innovation; Second, basic research needs to be carried out in an environment that encourages innovation and tolerates failure. Third, improving the public's understanding of the importance of science is necessary to build an innovative country and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; and Fourth, science education and talent cultivation are related to the creation of an innovative culture and the building of scientific and technological foundation, which requires more attention and support from the whole society.
