On August 28, 2026, Prof. Fang Yu was invited to attend the first plenary meeting of the first Academic Committee of the Shaanxi Laboratory for New Materials, where he was appointed as a member of the first Academic Committee.

Shaanxi Laboratory for New Materials is led by the Northwest Institute of Nonferrous Metals, which serves as the chairing organization. It was jointly established with seven universities and research institutions—including Northwestern Polytechnical University and Xi’an Jiaotong University—as well as three industry-leading enterprises, such as Western Materials. The laboratory focuses on technological research in five cutting-edge fields—metallic materials, superconducting and quantum materials, composite materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, and materials genomics—and is committed to achieving breakthroughs in key core technologies to support the development of Shaanxi’s 100-billion-yuan new materials industrial cluster.
